The Elder Scrolls V: SKYRIM
Grab your shield and axe as you go forth into Skyrim.
The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim is another action RPG from Bethesda Studios, since 2006 the franchise has been MIA and saw the light of day again back in dec 2010. So has the series’ Fifth instalment changed its ways or is it just the same as the ones before.
Well it depends on what you are looking for; the story begins again with you being captured but this time on death row. Near the end of your life you must create an avatar that you will use for the rest of the game. The first things we noticed is that the graphics yet pretty aren’t the prettiest on the market (The Witcher 2) this is obvious when you walk up to a brick house or wall. But because the game is so big we can forgive them with this as it saves space on the disk (just the one disk!)
As you continue to your death you are attacked by a Dragon and soon escape into the world of skyrim, the rest we don’t want to spoil.
Gameplay is nearly the exact same as Oblivion, when your swinging your sword it still feels weightless as you swing 20 times to kill an Orc. This just gets annoying in certain places but yet it still feels natural to play. You can now dual wield one handed weapons but lose blocking. 3rd person mode has been improved; the camera now goes behind you when using a weapon and goes closer to you when you holster it.
The enemies still lack the great A.I and just repeat battle words which can sometimes be humorous! You can now battle dragons and giants with the use of Dragon shouts which you get from finding Dragon stones. You must kill a dragon to gain its soul and unlock more shouts. Fighting dragons is a blast the first time but after you have slain 4 or more it just get repetitive.
There are infinite side quests available for you do and will keep you hooked for hours on end. The face animations still look unrealistic and body animations tend to glitch out but happen rarely in the game. Voice acting is okay at best with the main actors delivering greatly but the city folk repeating themselves (but at least it has more than 5 voice actors)
If you’re looking for a story driven game with a massive world to explore then you’re in luck, but if you’re just looking for an action game with a great fighting system and a simple story to follow then you may want to spend your time elsewhere (Arkham City is for you)
In the end this is a massive and great looking game, it’s a shame that the fighting gets very repetitive and annoying.
